Good evening people of Earth,
Just thinking about this tonight and I wanted to share. I am so super excited about marrying Jessica, and I wanted to share it.
As no one knows, because none of you exist, I have been engaged twice before. 'What?' you ask, before exclaiming, 'scandalous!'
Yes, it is true.
The first time I was engaged I was twenty years old. We'd been dating for a few years and marriage seemed like a logical step. I was pretty much dragged through the process, not offering much in the way of opinion on anything really. Luckily I saw sense (and that she wanted to root one of our friends) and we ended things. She went on to marry the guy in question and they had four kids. They later separated, but you get that. I think deep down I knew we weren't ready, and so did she, which led to the situation being that way.
The next time was even weirder. We had lived together for a few years, it seemed like the right thing to do. We never set a date, and I don't think either of us really intended to get married at any point. That ended because of a whole bunch of fucked upness. Maybe one day, but today is not the time for that level of disclosure. Needless to say it was messy and emotionally damaging for both of us.
This time is so different. I felt the need to not make the mistakes that I had made in the past (kids, don't get so drunk that she sees it coming and says no before you ask). I truly think I at least surprised her a little bit, and fulfilled my social obligation of asking her father's permission, which is something I had also previously neglected. She is the one, I know it now, and I knew it then, so I knew I had to get the proposal right. I feel much more connected in the planning of our wedding, even in its early, 2 year to go stages. I want to help choose a venue, and a theme, and the vibe of the whole thing and everything. I am more excited about marrying her and spending the rest of our lives together than I have been about anything in my life (sorry Devin Townsend). 2 years ago I had convinced myself no one could love me, and that I would be a horrible husband and father. Now I cannot wait to prove past me wrong.
She is my world, now and forever, and I could not be happier about it.
I love you Jessica.
